Position Summary

  • Maintain, update, develop, and document databases for nuclear astrophysics reaction rate data and related nuclear data
  • Evaluate experimental and theoretical research results in the field, and use the information to update the databases
  • Interact and collaborate with USNDP structure evaluators to coordinate and take advantage of ongoing nuclear physics evaluation efforts
  • Be an active member of the JINA-CEE collaboration, be responsive to their data needs, and collaborate proactively to develop new or updated data products.
  • Interact with the nuclear astrophysics community to develop and implement best practices for nuclear astrophysics data evaluation
  • Participate in JINA-CEE activities at MSU and across the collaboration network
  • Follow Laboratory-wide policies, procedures and standards and contribute to a safe and welcoming environment at the Laboratory

Required Degree

Doctorate -Nuclear Physics, Nuclear & Radiochemistr

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics, Nuclear & Radiochemistry, Nuclear Astrophysics, or related fields
  • Ability to handle export controlled materials

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in the development of nuclear astrophysics data products
  • Deep understanding of the data needs of the nuclear astrophysics community
  • Experience in evaluation of experimental and theoretical nuclear data
  • Experience with managing databases for nuclear astrophysics
  • Experience with theoretical tools and codes to develop nuclear astrophysics data products such as Hauser-Feshbach models, reaction models for cross section extrapolation, or R-Matrix codes
  • Experience with computer programming for the purpose of managing large sets of data
  • Excellent communication skills to present approaches, plans and findings both verbally and through written documents to peers
  • Demonstrated interest in nuclear astrophysics
